For this art project, we were given multiple
themes. I chose ‘Hidden and Reveal’, from using this title I followed several
different steps in enabling me to complete my final piece and name my project
‘Secrets and Lies’. My final piece was managed to be completed by having done
lots of preparation and planning in my sketchbook and my online blog. For my
final piece, I have created 8 canvases which all connect to one of my collected
secrets. After having done a lot of research on the artist Joanne Archer my
final piece is inspired by her work and her techniques. I have used a mixture
of acrylic paint, oil pastel, paper, letters, books, newspaper and candle wax.
Using these materials helped give my work more of an unusual look and using
words from old books and letters also makes the work look more secret and anonymous;
linking to the theme. Each canvas represents a different secret however, most
of the background colours are quite similar as I wanted to keep a dark theme
going due to the work being about people’s secrets and lies. I am happy with
how most of them turned out as some of them look very powerful and show the
message behind the secret very well. Some of them didn’t turn out as great as I
had expected however, I am still happy with them as they all show something
different. The canvases will be displayed in 3 rows on a wall or board along
with a video projected on top of them. I have also decided to create a small
film connecting to my work as it gives the piece more of an understanding;
showing the audience that these secrets could have come from anyone or anywhere
in the world and how we live in a world with so many secrets such as these
chosen ones here. The video is very different from the secrets however, it is
not displaying the secrets, it’s presenting how secrets and lies are found
wherever you may be. The layout of my piece is also inspired by Christian
Polanski as I really love the way he presented his work and how powerful and
neat it looked when completed. Overall, I am really happy with my final piece
as the canvases look really powerful and intriguing along with the video being
played over the top.
